Wall Columns
91”h x 13”w x 5”d
I created this installation to provide a sense of the space and magnitude of columnar work that survives in so many ancient ruin sites. There are so many similarities in the now-eroded carvings, but so many variations of size and complexity, that all together, they have the semblance of a pillared forest.
I made 7 such half-columns varying in height, width and depth. Each shares the general design composition of the others. The surfaces are various woven and knit cotton fabrics that have been rusted with found objects and oxides, layered, stuffed, burned, stitched and formed. While shown here in a straight-line presentation, the half-columns can be re-arranged to fit gallery space and configuration needs.
