Defining the social and psychological relationship of two women by simple lines of posture and physical attitude is illustrated in this sculptural work. The cock of the head, the fold of the arms, and the curve of the spine, all help define the mix of emotions that must be passing in this moment. It’s a scene I remember between my mother and aunt at many family gatherings.
I created this sculpture by first sewing the figures completely in cotton muslin, then resist dyeing each figure with yellow and red onion skins. This process allowed for uninterrupted contoured designs portraying each woman’s dress and features.
