Solstice II
13”h x 28”w
I feel serene looking out my windows at the snow-covered mountains and bare trees standing quietly in falling snow. It is Winter Solstice.
To create the surface design of this work, I went out in the early morning snow and laid bare tree branches down on dyed velvet and cotton as resists and then removed some of the black dye with hot solutions. The narrow bright gold strip of dyed satin was incorporated to reference the very short time of sunlight during this December day. The entire composition was then layered and stitched.
