Interwoven Life
24”h x 19”w
This art quilt commemorates Janina Monkute – Marks , an artist and founder of an art museum in Kedainai, Lithuania. I used wool, linen and flax to design a curvy color-blocked surface, referencing her use of bright colors, her materials and her folk art imagery. I embroidered a sketch of her museum and the Lithuanian flag. I commissioned Milda Kvedaras from Arizona, a Lithuanian master weaver herself, to weave a special commemorative sash in a traditional Lithuanian style that I appliquéd within this landscape.
