Gintaras (Amber)
88”h x 65”w x 3”d
This dimensional triptych reflects on the geological processes that create amber in the Baltic Sea area. Ancient tree sap forming in prehistoric forests, buried under millions of years of earth and mineral deposits, is slowly eroded by sea washes and is scattered on the beaches amongst the other pebbles and shells.
I ultimately designed the work as a vertical triptych, with the center section on a convex curve, after studying the specific space the client designated and the surrounding angles made by adjacent windows, walls and doors. The surfaces of the work are pieced and appliquéd sections of my dyed, discharged, rusted and painted fabrics, with a beading of amber nuggets.
