Fire Passage
6 ft high x 46 ft wide
This work is meant to give the viewer an intimate view and experience of blazing markings up close: close to the physical markings on the cloth and close to the allusions these markings present. Because the work was created directly on a snowy landscape, in a process that requires hot liquid applications, with the intermingling and steaming of the hot and cold, I’m hoping that the viewer will also sense the forces of this dichotomy in this fiery tunnel.
I created 2 large arrays of whole-cloth textiles that hang in tandem forming this passage. As an installation, these panels are hung in a variety of configurations, depending on the space and layout of the gallery.
