Colorado Milkweed
18”w x 52”h
During a recent fire in an open field behind our home, I was especially captivated by the spectacular display of burning milkweed. The Colorado milkweed are a nesting home for migrating Monarch butterflies and the destruction of these plants brought special significance for our environment.
I constructed this work by piecing together separately discharged cotton velveteen strips; I then further discharged this construction with starch paste resist to reference the remaining dry soil.
